European Institute of Choral Singing

INECC plays an important role in developing the musical and choral life of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It pursues its goals by collaborating with the Ministry of Culture and the City of Luxembourg along with choir associations, general and special education providers and music organisations.
INECC’s activities involve a number of areas:

  • a resource centre serving the public and a range of institutional, political and cultural partners and associates (providing advice and information, engaging in research, holding meetings, etc.)
  • support for amateur choir singers practising alone or in a group (providing information, advice, training, etc.)
  • further professional training for teachers at conservatoires and music schools, musicians performing at schools, choir directors, singers, music teachers in secondary schools, staff at nurseries and community centres, etc.
INECC is the link between amateurs and professionals, providing them with information (through newsboards, guidance and advice), offering support (through a nationwide presence), acting as a think-tank and a platform for cooperation (through its experience in organising cultural events). Its role is to promote choral singing and to improve the quality of amateur choirs, to spread and broaden knowledge of all musical genres and repertoires, to facilitate the creative process and to encourage visiting artists, innovative initiatives, dialogue of cultures, etc.

Develop skills, stimulate artistic flair, build the future by focusing on children and youth – inspiring their musical sensitivity early on in life.
These are the objectives and missions that INECC sets for itself.

Let our voices be heard through our singing!

VI Spring of Poets in Luxembourg

The voice of poetry
April 12–14

“Regardless of whether it whispers, shouts or sings, a poem always retains something of its original orality. It is nothing less than a voice, the inner voice of the poet responding to the voice of the world.” These words were written by the poet Jean-Pierre Simeon, at a time when poetry, in verse and prose, is recited, sung, shouted and chanted... It is the voice of a poet, but also of the reader.

Poetry is, in the words of Mallarmé, “music par excellence”, but what is meant by that is not just the melody of sounds, rhythm and structure of poetic phrase. As Claude Esteban aptly notes, it is about “a deeper search for harmony, which not only governs the universe, but every breath and every step we take. Words of poetry are an open testimony, a voice calling to another man, a gesture of welcome and a promise of unity.”

Selecting the “voice of poetry” as the theme of its sixth edition, Luxembourg Spring of Poets pays tribute to orality, particularly alive right here, where it is so polyphonic and multilingual.

On 12–14 April we invite you to Kulturfabrik, Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster and Simoncini Gallery, where you will have the opportunity to discover the voices of twelve wonderful poets. It is thanks to them that spring will begin in earnest!

The guests of the Luxembourg Spring of Poets, invited in collaboration with partner institutions – the embassies, cultural institutes and high schools, are:

Nanni Balestrii (Italy) / Franzobel (Austria) / Emilian Galaicu-Păun (Moldova) / Stan Lafleur (Germany) / Ester Naomi Perquin (the Netherlands) / Jacek Podsiadło (Poland) / Jean Portante (Luxembourg) / Lionel Ray (France) / Josep Maria Sala-Valldaura (Catalonia) / David Teles Pereira (Portugal) / Raphael Urweider (Switzerland) / Antoine Wauters (Belgium).

A concert of sung poetry will close the VI Spring of Poets in the CCR Abbaye de Neumünster on April 21st. The concert featuring Stanisław Soyka (Poland) and Hoquetus Ensemble (Luxembourg), is part of the Third Festival of Polish Culture in Luxembourg.
