It’s the summer of 1939. Zosia is a Polish girl, head over heels in love with the Ukrainian Petro. Their love is put to the test when her father decides to marry her off to Skiba – a wealthy widower. Immediately after the wedding, the devastated Zosia stays behind with the children when her husband is called up to the front. Meanwhile, violence spreads among the Poles, Ukrainians and Jews living around her. She becomes a victim and witness of tragic events, that will culminate in a slaughter of the Polish population perpetrated by ruthless murderers from the UPA (Ukrainian Insurgent Army) as well as Polish acts of self-defence.
